The whole chain is held together by a elastic green string knotted at the base of the main bead and hangs down . Japanese Buddhist rosary bracelets ( Juzu or Nenju ) are used for daily religious practices as well as at funerals and other Buddhist ceremonies. When using a rosary, hold it in your left hand. When you pray, put your hands together and place the prayer beads between your index finger and thumb. If the rosary is long, hold it in two rows. (How to hold varies by denomination).
